PROJECT:

This project contains 2 other levels/maps on my portfolio, Tsaeheylu Islands and Wysteria Falls, all heavily inspired by Avatar, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora!

Just like with my previous two maps, I began this project by creating a mood board to collect and reference visual inspiration throughout the build. For this environment, I drew heavily from The Spires and the misty marshes of Kinglor Forest in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. My focus was on creating a rich, atmospheric feel—using lighting, fog, and sun rays filtering through the trees to bring the world to life and immerse players in a moody, natural setting.

For this map, I worked with a smaller terrain compared to my previous builds—but focused on using verticality and natural formations to create a sense of depth and scale. I sculpted a series of cliffs and elevated pathways that encourage exploration and add visual interest throughout the landscape. Rock formations were carefully shaped and positioned around streams and rivers to integrate seamlessly with the environment and enhance the natural flow of the terrain.

For this map’s foliage, I focused on a mix of dense jungle vegetation, oversized mushrooms, and alien-inspired plant life to create a lush, otherworldly feel. Bioluminescent plants were placed near the water’s edge to enhance the environment’s glow at night, alongside a variety of aquatic flora to enrich the wetlands.

To fully bring the swamp aesthetic to life, I incorporated hanging vines, fallen logs, and layered ground cover to add depth and texture throughout the scene.
